Sixteen WHO CC, four of which are in the Russian Federation, are successfully operating around the world under the REMPAN program (Emergency Preparedness and Assistance Network for Radiation Emergencies) by 2015. Undoubtedly, the leading positions, the greatest experience and achievements in the field of treatment of patients with acute radiation injuries belong today in Russia to the SRC – FMBC.

Over 20 years of existence of the WHO CC, more than 50 emergency and non-emergency cases of overexposure have been investigated.

The history of WHO CC includes:

The medical and radiological team of the WHO CC on a special radiation reconnaissance vehicle annually performs field duty during major international events: the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, the 2015 World Aquatics Championships in Kazan, the 2017 FIFA Confederation Cup and others. Within the framework of the WHO CC, there is an emergency team and a specialized emergency Department in the event of a radiation accident. In addition to domestic consultations, expert work was carried out in the Baltic States, Georgia, Japan and South America.

Every year, local and international trainings on readiness for providing medical and dosimetric assistance in radiation accidents, are held with the involvement of the WHO CC. From 2008 to 2017 eighty-two exercises were conducted, including eight international ones with the involvement of other WHO CC of the REMPAN system in the period.
